A satin comforter, known for its slippery, shiny smoothness, is a sumptuous type of comforter that can add a touch of old-world elegance to your bed.  Satin comforters are soft and flexible unlike bulky down filled comforters.  Satin is not a fabric but a type of weave, historically made from silk.  Today there are various types and qualities of fabric sold as satin including a knit satin fabric.  Satin’s smoothness comes from the high thread count used, usually between 230 to 400 threads, which results in a small, tight weave of the fibers.  The luster of satin, giving it a shiny look, comes from the unique, natural glossy fibers of silk.  Synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon, and acetate can be produced in both extremely fine and highly glossy strands reproducing the look of satin produced from silk.  Satin comforters are priced according to the material used to manufacture them – silk being the most costly and synthetic knit satin being the most economical.  Satin comforters can be very durable, lasting a lifetime if taken care of properly.

Bridal Satin Comforter

Bridal satin, so named because so many bridal gown manufacturers use it, is a top quality, sleek woven fiber satin.  It can be made of pure silk or polyester. Bridal satin comforters are luxurious, soft and silky with the well known slippery, shiny properties one associates with satin.  Comforters made of pure silk bridal satin are very expensive and must be hand washed.  Comforters made of the polyester bridal satin may be machine washed though wrinkling is a problem with all satin, and will cost considerably less.

Polyester Satin Comforter

A smooth silky comforter made of 100% woven polyester satin adds a luxurious touch to any bed.  These satiny soft comforters come in numerous colors and are often manufactured as reversible either combining different colors or utilizing a solid color on one side and a stripe or pattern on the reverse side.  A polyester satin comforter is an affordable alternative to a natural silk comforter.  This comforter is reliably machine washable.

Knit Satin Comforter

Knit satin comforters are often manufactured with acetate or polyester fiber which has a slightly rougher surface than natural silk comforters.  Knit satin comforters usually appear to be shinier than a natural silk satin comforter and will have a slightly less fluid drape to the fabric.  Comforters made of knit satin are more durable than those made of pure silk.  These comforters are easy on the pocketbook being more affordable than woven silk fabric.  This comforter may be machine washed.
